About the Position

Webellian is looking for a Senior Java Backend Developer to build the backend of a new social discovery application connecting people through shared activities and events.

You will take ownership of the backend services, APIs, data flows, security, and production readiness, working closely with a Senior Flutter Developer and an international project team.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the Java backend services and APIs supporting the mobile application.

• Implement the business logic for user onboarding, profiles, events, matching, communication, and notifications.

• Define clear and well-documented API contracts for the Flutter application.

• Design reliable data models, persistence layers, and database migrations.

• Implement secure authentication, authorization, validation, and protection of personal data.

• Design the backend to support at least 10,000 concurrent users and horizontal scaling.

• Write unit, integration, API, load, and performance tests.

• Implement logging, monitoring, health checks, and error tracking.

• Support containerization, CI/CD, cloud deployment, release stabilization, and documentation.

Required Experience & Skills

• At least five years of professional backend-development experience with Java.

• Strong experience with modern Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Spring Data.

• Experience designing and documenting production REST APIs using OpenAPI or Swagger.

• Strong knowledge of SQL, relational data modelling, JPA, and Hibernate.

• Experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or JWT.

• Experience designing scalable and resilient services using caching, asynchronous processing, or message queues.

• Knowledge of automated testing using JUnit, Mockito, Spring Boot Test, or comparable tools.

• Experience with Docker, Git, CI/CD, cloud environments, and production monitoring.

• Professional working proficiency in both English, Russian is a plus

• Good communication skills.
